Scientific research activities, international coordination and institutional academic roles of Prof. Armando Di Nardo.

Research Groups and Areas

  • Smart Water Networks (SWAN): Development of heuristic optimization algorithms (genetic algorithms, fuzzy logic, neural networks) and application of graph theory for districting and optimal management of losses in water distribution networks.
  • Permeable Adsorbing Barriers (PAB): Experimental and numerical research on the remediation of contaminated aquifers through reactive permeable barriers, with hydraulic-environmental modeling of underground flows.
  • Water Resources Management: Optimization of artificial reservoir management during drought periods and integrated water planning at basin level.

International Scientific Coordination

  • EIP Water Action Group: Leader of the Action Group of the European Innovation Partnerships for the optimal management of water resources (with over 50 European partner institutions).
  • Water Europe Working Group (SWANSET): Leader of the "Smart Water Network Sensors and Tools" working group within the European Water Europe consortium.
  • National and International Research Projects: Participation in Horizon 2020 calls (VALUEMAG, Bio4V), PON R&S (SISCO, WAMAC, DIMODI) and PRIN.
